Bangkok 17-22 jan 2006 --- Part 4
that statue is the king's father. heard he was a doctor. and the queen's statue is within the hospital, in the building beside tis park.
national pastime: kite-flying. in the old days, boys wear 1 or 2 buns (cant remember what is it called in thai) on their heads. its also a symbol for something i cant remember. my thai colleague was explaining to another colleague and myself then but i was getting restless and didnt quite remember it. geesh. it was quite warm then. no air con at waiting areas and corridors. only when we got into a room that we could switch on the air con. -_-
skytrain & mrt. very clean and organized. it left me a good impression.
at siam bts station going to mo chit (where chatuchak is). commuters queuing to board the skytrain. no markings or announcements at all and yet they were all so organized!!! commuters in spore have alot to learn from them.
reno hotel - more like a hostel. nearest bts station is national stadium or either that, its jus across the road from MBK centre. we stayed here for 1 nite. definitely lost out to holiday inn bangkok but its really a cheap deal. S$35 a nite for 2 persons.
street hawker lining the road downstairs the hotel.
front desk
dimly lit corridor. not advisable for girls only unless u're a big group of karate-abled girls.
MBK centre - saw alot of toiletries selling here. jus like people's park in spore. even my fave face of australia sunscreen is available here but at a steeper price. saw my mom's fave la mer but dont know if its authentic or not. the rather famous nan sing bird nest is here.
walking from reno hotel to siam.
a weighing scale by the road. in creating awareness of AIDS or HIV. yep, weight loss is a common symptom.
siam bts skytrain station
siam paragon - the talk of the town. lotsa high end shopping, a food mall and a huge supermarket (food gourmet). somewhat like ngee ann city.
outdoor pics were slanted cos it was sooooo glaring we cant see what we were taking.
JIMMY CHOO!!!! shoes. i liiiiiikeeee....
food hall within siam paragon
tis works like marche. jus present the card to the stall for your food and u pay up at the end, after your meal. very crowded and i didnt like what i had, tom yum ramen. very small portion. or i was too hungry. it was after half a day of walking at chatuchak. remember, all we had was a coconut ice shaving.
alot of food stalls here. exactly like takashimaya food hall. got cyrstal jade and breadtalk too.
gourmet market within siam paragon
i was like a girl let loose in a candy bar. its like doing a free and easy tour of the giantic supermarket with powerful air con (when u r in bangkok, in fact same here in spore, u love anywhere that has air con. even if u dont like the clothes or food selling in that shop, u'll be drawn to step in. hahaa... the magic of air con). tis OH has got nothing better to do but to follow me and secretively took pics of me. thank god he wasnt caught by the security for stalking me.
siam centre - shopping shopping shopping but OH and i were more into eating. i bought a toni&guy volumiser spray at Boots pharmacy here. not sure abt the volumising effect but it at least keep my hair smelling good thru out the humid weather here in spore.
coca steamboat!!!! buffet for 1 hour. they'll give u a receipt with the time that u clocked in. from there, u keep track. u've one whole steamboat to yourself. with juice, its only abt S$6 each!!! only setback: no prawns. -_-
if u havent been to bangkok, go! not jus for shopping, food is good and CHEAP!!! with so many low cost carriers flying to bangkok, what are u waiting for? okay, maybe after the thaksin saga. "-_-
