national day treats
i'm not feeling my best and so will do a quick update here.
the SBS channel has been airing singapore productions for the past few nights. we've seen makansutra's seetoh and forever fever featuring adrian pang and pierre png. OH and i supposed it had to do with singapore's national day today. thats the only reason we can think of. anyhow, watching them made us realised we singaporeans speak like bullet trains. and we lurve "sure or not?", "don wan lah!", etc. singlish, what we call our own, but we're not making ourselves heard. non- singaporeans dont usually comprehend a singlish conversation. the same goes for the aussie slang, in fact worse. sometimes its like hearing a different language altogether. like singlish, its their own true blue culture but foreigners dont understand a thing of it. lemme quote an example.

aussie: i wanna chuck a sickie tis arvo.
singaporean: i beg your pardon? (more like kong si mi?)
aussie: i meant i wanna take the afternoon off but, but i'm not sick.
chuck a sickie = to take the day off when one is perfectly healthy.
arvo = afternoon.
so is it the natural evolution of language/ culture or are we all trying to speak a language no one other than ourselves can understand?
yesterday: devoted the whole day to packing. gave away alot of my fave dresses and tops to st vincent de paul. some were too tight, some too short, some i probably wont wear in tis lifetime ever.
caught the last episode of desperate housewives and a brand new episode of grey's anatomy. i love grey's anatomy. a fusion of medicine and drama. how can i not love it? looks like i'm gonna miss the second episode next tuesday. can anyone tell me if its showing in singapore? which episode is it at now? and i'll try to download the in-betweens. have to do it before thursday cos after then, we'll have no computer, no telly, no connection with the outside world. we've scheduled our air freight on that day so as to have the stuffs arrive in singapore next thursday. dont know how true it is but i've heard that the singapore police is watching closely on illegal downloads. dont think i'll dare download a single episode of anything when i'm back. anyway, korean dramas are readily available on telly and in the shops (though not as updated as what i'm getting). as for the rest of the shows, fingers crossed for SCV.
today is tuesday so u should all know where OH and i went. monster-in-law is fantastic. its so nice.
(warning: the following may potentially be a spoiler for the movie so please do not read on if u havent watch it)
j.lo's eye makeup looked really good on her. michael vartan is such a dearie and goodlooker (in the show). so handsome, so gentleman, so romantic, so cute. how can anyone like him still be single and available? i'm talking abt him in the show okay. lurve the part at the beach when he told jlo one good reason why she should go out with him, abt her eye color. the teary bit of the show came when jlo was negotiating with jane fonda. it was a twist i wasnt expecting. j.lo wanted her MIL to be involved in her kids' school play, soccer game, clarinet performance, in everything. that was so touching. jane fonda is a really lonely person and i feel that she must be so touched with those words. at least i'm (touched).
okaaay, it sure didnt look like a quick update. i should go get some rest now. happi burfday singapore and hope all have rested well on tis public holiday. cheerios.
